Egypt condemned in the strongest terms a suicide bombing that targeted a Sikh minority in Afghanistan, killing at least 19 people and injuring others.
In an official statement, Egypt s Foreign Ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for the injured, stressing the support of Egypt s government and people in facing terrorism to the government and people of Afghanistan.
The statement reiterated Egypt s call to bring international efforts together to confront the phenomenon of terrorism and eradicate it from its roots by drying out sources of funding and providing a safe haven and training to those affected by it.
On Sunday, a suicide bombing hit the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, killing at least 19 people, most of them members of the country s Sikh minority.
According to the police, members of the Sikh minority had been travelling in a car to meet President Ashraf Ghani, who was visiting Nangarhar province, when the bomber carried out the attack.
Among those killed was te Awtar Singh Khalsa he only Sikh candidate planning to run in the country s parliamentary elections in October.
The Islamic State (IS) group said it had carried out the attack.
