Egypt s, the world s largest wheat importer, has strategic reserves of wheat to cover four months of consumption, Supply and Internal Trade Minister Ali el-Moselhi said on Thursday.
Egypt has sufficient sugar and cooking oil reserves for around three months, Moselhi added in a press conference, according to state news agency MENA.
Egypt s wheat harvest ended in late June with a total of 3.15 million tonnes of the crop, one of the lowest tallies in years.
The US Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS) in Cairo had predicted that Egypt s wheat production in the marketing year 2018/19 (July-June) would reach 8.45 million metric tons, up 4.3 percent from the previous marketing year.
