Egypt will launch early in October a large medical screening campaign, Presidency Spokesman Bassam Radi said Wednesday.
The campaign will be carried out to detect and treat Hepatitis C patients and other chronic diseases, he said.
Radi added that the campaign will cover 50 million citizens.
The scan is expected to take place from October 2018 till April 2019 in all Egyptian governorates.
Egypt has the highest prevalence of the hepatitis C in the world, according to the World Health Organization.
The highly infectious virus kills an estimated 40,000 Egyptians per year and at least 1 in 10 members of the population aged 15 to 59 are infected.
