CAIRO - Ex-Speaker of the People's Assembly (Lower House of Egyptian Parliament) Ahmed Fathi Surour was released on Monday by the Ministry of Justice’s Illicit Gains Authority (IGA) on bail of LE100,000, the official Middle East News Agency reports.
The IGA had detained Surour for 15 days last month and then renewed his detention for another 15 days on charges of illegally amassing wealth.
The head of the IGA, Assem el-Gohari, says that his release doesn’t mean that he is innocent, adding they are still investigating Surour, an influential Mubarak aide.
