Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held bilateral talks with Jordanian King Abdullah II arriving in Amman on Sunday, followed by a session of extended talks between delegations of the two countries.
Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, Bassam Rady, said that the talks reviewed the latest regional and international developments. The two sides exchanged views on the Palestinian cause and prospects for the Middle East peace process.
The two leaders stressed the importance of working to resume negotiations between Palestine and Israel on the basis of the two-state solution and the Arab peace initiative to reach a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian cause that preserves the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their state on the June 4, 1967 boundaries with East Jerusalem as its capital, which will contribute to restoring stability and open new horizons for the Middle East.
Both sides also discussed joint efforts to combat terrorism, stressing the need to push international efforts to tackle terrorism within the framework of a comprehensive strategy to eradicate it.
The leaders also reviewed ongoing efforts to resolve the current crises in some countries in the region, especially Syria, Libya and Yemen. They stressed the need for a peaceful political solution to the crises plaguing the situation, supporting efforts to stop the violence and improve humanitarian conditions and stress their territorial integrity.
The presidential spokesperson said that the two sides agreed to continue intensive coordination at all levels in order to address the unprecedented challenges that threaten the security and stability of the Arab world.
The talks dealt with means of enhancing the bilateral relations between the two countries, thus contributing to realizing the hopes and of the two nations particularly in the areas of economy, trade, investment, pharmaceutical industries, transport and energy, and exporting natural gas from Egypt to Jordan.
Sisi praised the distinguished relations between Egypt and Jordan, stressing Egypt’s interest in continuing to strengthen those relations and push them forward at all levels.
The president also valued the existing cooperation between the two countries on issues of mutual interest and their keenness to promote joint Arab action to contribute to the various challenges currently facing the Arab nations.
Radi added that his Majesty King Abdullah II hailed Egypt’s pivotal role in the region and its efforts to consolidate stability and fight terrorism in a way that serves the interests of Arab people at a time when the entire region is facing unprecedented challenges that have affected the stability and safety of the Arab countries and the security of their citizens.
