Egypt s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi welcomed on Sunday current cooperation between Egypt and the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) to facilitate the planning of energy infrastructure in Egypt and conduct studies on renewable energy technology.
The president made the remarks during a meeting with GEIDCO Chairman Liu Zhenya in the presence of Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker.
During the meeting, President El-Sisi praised the important role played by GEIDCO to establish a global power interconnection project to meet the global demand for electricity, presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said.
Egypt will continue to support efforts aimed at achieving regional integration and developing infrastructure in Africa through maximising investments in cross-border projects, El-Sisi said.
Liu praised the mega projects being implemented in Egypt in the field of power transmission and distribution.
He stressed that his organisation is looking forward to more cooperation with the Egyptian government in the coming period in light of Egypt s presidency of the African Union this year.
The meeting also touched on Egypt s efforts to increase its dependence on renewable energy.
