Egypt s Health Minister Hala Zayed said on Monday the total number of those examined since the “100 million healthy lives” initiative was launched is estimated at 32.5 million citizens covering 27 governorates till now.
Zayed, in press statements on Monday, said 1.6 million citizens were screened in the seven governorates included in the third stage till yesterday.
The initiative aims at eliminating Hepatitis C in Egypt.
Zayed lauded performance of all medical teams taking part in the initiative.
Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said the third phase was launched on March 1 in the governorates of Giza, Gharbia, Sharqia, Dakahlia, El Wadi El Gadid, Qena, and Menya, targeting around 23.4 million citizens.
The spokesman said Dakahlia governorate is the most active in the campaign with 456,741 citizens, followed by Sharqiya with 343,227 citizens.
The first stage of the initiative was launched in October 2018 under the auspices of President Abdel Fatah El Sisi.
The initiative s final stage is set to to end in April 2019 after targeting more than 45 million citizens.
The Health Ministry has vowed to completely eliminate the disease from Egypt 2022.
