Military to cancel curfew from June 15

CAIRO: Egypt's military has decided to end a nightly curfew that was initially imposed at the height of the popular uprising that toppled president Hosni Mubarak in February, state media reported on Monday.

"The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces decided to end the curfew starting from mid-June," official news agency MENA reported. State television said it would end on June 15.

An army source said the decision was made to "encourage the return to normal life."

A curfew from 6 pm to 7 am was imposed on Jan. 28 when Mubarak was still in power. It was shortened in several stages and now lasts from 2 am to 5 am.
