Minister El-Masry expressed his dismay to Ambassador Geoffrey Adams over the unilateral decision by British Airways to suspend flights to Cairo without informing Egyptian authorities beforehand.
Ambassador Adams apologised to the civil aviation minister for not giving prior notification to Egyptian authorities before implementing the decision to suspend flights.
Adams added that the decision to suspend flights was in no way related to the security measures at Egypt’s airports, especially in light of the recent security upgrades made at all Egyptian airports.
On Saturday, British Airways announced the temporary suspension of its flights to the Egyptian capital Cairo for seven days, citing security concerns, without giving details about what had prompted the move.
Minister El-Masry and Ambassador Adams agreed to continue joint efforts to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and also agreed to continue to cooperate in order to ensure the safety of passengers, according to the statement.
