The death toll from a car crash in central Cairo has risen to 20, with dozens injured, Health Minister Hala Zayed said on Monday, hours after the accident which led to a huge blast outside of the country s National Cancer Institute (NCI).
Forty-seven people were injured in the accident, the minister said.
The interior ministry said hours after the blast that several people were killed and injured after four cars collided, which led to an explosion.
The ministry said that the explosion occurred after a speeding car moving against traffic collided with three cars.
Cairo University, which manages the NCI, has dismissed reports that the explosion occurred inside the institute.
