Egypt s Court of Cassation accepted on Monday the appeal of 11 police officers and policemen against a 2012 court ruling of one-year suspended sentence for killing protesters during the 25 January 2011 Revolution, ordering their retrial.

In March 2012, a Cairo Criminal Court sentenced 11 police officer and policemen to a suspended year in prison and acquitted three others for killing 22 and injuring 44 protesters who gathered in front of Hadaeq El-Qobba Police station in Cairo during the early days of the January Revolution in 2011.
The general prosecution accused the defendants of intentionally killing protesters to spread fear among the protesters to disperse them.
The prosecution also accused the defendants of using firearms in violation of the rules of using them.
According to official numbers, 846 people died during the 18-day uprising.
