Education minister Tarek Shawki said on Monday that 1,070 teachers were fired due to their ties with the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood group.
Speaking at a press conference, Shawky said the move aimed at "purging the ministry off any [extremist] thought that could affect students."
The minister noted that a press conference would be held on Tuesday to announce the new criteria of appointing teachers.
He said an e-portal would be launched on Wednesday for those seeking jobs at public and private schools.
The ministry will hire 120,000 teachers on a contractual basis for a year, the minister said, adding that the contracts could then be renewed every three years and will cost the ministry EGP 1.6 billion.
