The body of former president Hosni Mubarak was airlifted on Wednesday to a mosque complex in the eastern New Cairo suburb where a military funeral service will be held in the afternoon.
Mubarak, who ruled the country for 30 years until he was toppled in a popular revolt in 2011, died in hospital on Tuesday at the age of 91.
Dozens of Mubarak s supporters, wearing black and carrying posters of the former leader, had gathered at the mosque in the early morning before funeral rituals started. Mubarak s body will be airlifted from the Mosheer Tantawy mosque to be buried at burial grounds in Cairo s Heliopolis district.
