CAIRO – "A maximum salary for Egyptian workers will be determined within a month,” newly appointed Minister of Finance Hazem el-Beblawi, who is also a deputy prime minister, has said.
El-Beblawi, who has recently taken office, added that all State employees in every sector - companies, ministries, bodies and banks - will be subjected to the amended Law 105/1985, the official Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on Tuesday.
He stressed that the Government wants to swiftly reform the mechanism for establishing the maximum salary, adding that a detailed study about this will soon be prepared.
El-Beblawi added that the Ministry will reconsider the minimum and maximum salaries periodically, according to prices and economic conditions.
He said that social justice, one of the revolution’s demands, will be borne in mind when fixing the maximum salary.
The Minister of Finance expressed his confidence that Egyptians will co-operate with the Government to achieve this, urging people earning a lot of money to sacrifice some of their salary willingly for the sake of the country’s economy, which is in crisis.
