Egypt martyrs’ killers arrested

SUEZ - Police in the Canal Governorate of Suez have arrested a businessman and his son, accused of killing protesters during the popular revolt that toppled the Mubarak regime in February.

Businessman Ibrahim Farag, dubbed the ‘Martyrs’ Killer’ by the people, and his son, who had been hiding for months, were caught yesterday. They face charges of killing 18 of the 31 protesters who died in Suez in the January-February revolt.

Last week, the Suez security chief, Major-General Adel Refaat, promised the victims’ families that the police would do their utmost to arrest the killers.

Receiving some of the martyrs’ relatives, Governor Mohamed Abdel-Moneim Hashem said that he was happy that the murderers had at last been caught.

He added that he expected the people of Suez, about 120km east of Cairo, to feel “relieved”, according to the official MENA news agency.
