Archbishop Markos of Shubra al-Khaimah said that the value of communion lies in the blood of Christ not the spoon.
He explained that the spoon didn’t exist from the days of the apostles, but they were added in the days of St. John Chrysostom to ensure equality between the congregation who take communion.
