ASHRAE announced the winners of the 2020 Student Design Competition and Applied Engineering Challenge. First place in the HVAC Design Calculations category was awarded to team of Faculty of Engineering of Cairo University: Eslam Mohamed Ali, Ahmed Mohamed Soltan, Amr Gamal Fawzy, Moustafa Ahmed El-Saeid and Mark Magdy Fouad of Cairo University, Giza, Egypt. Faculty advisors are Dr. Mahmoud Fouad and Dr. Moustafa El-Sallak.

The team competed with several universities of the world and the competition was judged by leading professors and world experts in this field. The competition encourages students to become involved in a profession that is crucial to ensuring a sustainable future for our earth – the design of energy-efficient HVAC systems.
Dr. Mohamed Othman El-Khasht, President of Cairo University, said that the university is proud of the students excellence and distinction that proves their ability to compete in the world with merit, which is like a new international certificate for Cairo University and its students.
Dr. Hussam Abdel Fattah, Dean of the College of Engineering, expressed his pride and happiness at the college s students winning the first place in the competition explaining that the winning project submitted by a group of undergraduate students in the Department of Mechanical Power Engineering.
