Liberal activist and writer D. Yehia al-Wakiel, has told Copts United that he intends to establish an Egyptian group that confirms the Egyptian identity as well as cultural pluralism of the country.
The group will be called "Copts Brotherhood" which is going to be political and not based on religion, and all Egyptians will be allowed in, even moderate Salafies who don’t hate non-Muslims and atheists, said al-Wakiel.
He added that the group is going to work legally and get a license, and will be funded by the membership dues, donations and subsidies from patriotic and pure Egyptian sources. He added that the word "Coptic" means "Egyptian", and he doesn’t accept that any political group should be based on religion, whether it is Islamic or Christian.
