Three missing after Gaza tunnel collapses
Egypt's security sources reported on Tuesday that three Palestinians are missing after a tunnel collapsed along the Egypt-Gaza border on Monday night

Egyptian officials said that they were informed by the Palestinian government in Gaza of the collapse and of the three missing people.

The tunnel that collapsed was about 1,000 meters north of the Rafah crossing point, the sources added.

Egyptian authorities were waiting for exact coordinates of the tunnel to begin searching for the missing people, the officials stated.

Smugglers maintain a large network of underground tunnels along the Rafah border, importing goods made scarce by an Israeli-led blockade of Gaza.

Accidents in the tunnels are frequent. According to the Palestinian human rights organization Al-Mezan, 120 people have been killed working in the tunnel trade since its inception approximately three years ago.
