The Dokki Prosecution has ordered the detention of Bahaa Bastawisi, a member of the Democratic Front Party, and Sultan Mohamed, for four days pending investigation into the arson of presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq’s campaign offices, and ordered the release of two other suspects who proved they did not take part in the incident.
The prosecution requested the identification of other suspects, who would be charged with arson, deliberate destruction of private property and endangering the lives of citizens.
The prosecution also took the testimony of political activist Alaa Abd El Fattah, who was accused by witnesses of involvement in the fire but denied the charges.
Witnesses alleged that they saw Abd El Fattah leading some 400 protesters and instructing them to set the office ablaze.
Mocking this accusation, Abd El Fattah posted on his Facebook page that the witnesses might as well accuse Mohamed ElBaradei of starting the fire.
