Keng Den's Funerary Boat Unearthed in Egypt

Egypt has always been a mysterious place based on its rich past, hidden and revealed; and exciting stories that have been told for centuries.

In a recent research excavation work at Egypt's Abu Rawash, a French archaeological mission discovers 3000 BC funeral boat of King Den northeast of Giza Plateau, site of the famous pyramids.

Scientist's, archeologists, researcher's, students from all over the world visit Egypt for their research and to uncover as much as they can about the earlier dynasties.

A French archaeological mission from the French Institute of Oriental Archaeology in Cairo (IFAO) was working at the Archaic period cemetery located at Abu Rawash, when they found the funerary boat of the First Dynasty King Den.

The boat was buried in a royal manner, which according to the beliefs, of ancient Egyptians is a way to transfer the king's soul to the afterlife for eternity.

With 11 large wooden planks reaching six meters high and 150-meters wide, the boat structure was unearthed from the northern part of the Mastaba number six of the archeological site, Minister of State for Antiquities Mohamed Ibrahim said in a press release sent to Ahram Online on Wednesday.

The restoration work on the wooden sheet will be done at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation. The sheets are expected to be put on display at the Nile hall for the public next year.
