Heightened security at Brotherhood headquarters after shooting

Security has been tightened around the Muslim Brotherhood headquarters in Cairo after a shooting that took place there on Sunday evening, said Interior Minister Ahmed Gamal Eddin.

The forensic report on the shooting incident that left security officer Ahmed Abdel Aal wounded is currently under review.

Abdel Aal said that the incident came after threats to set the headquarters on fire, and accused former MP Mohamed Abou Hamed and TV host Tawfiq Okasha of orchestrating the incident.

Two workers at the headquarters, Mohamed Amer and Mohamed Fawzi, said that the attack happened around the time of iftar. After Abdel Aal was shot, they rushed him to the hospital.

The Brotherhood has now equipped the headquarter gates with security cameras to help prevent future attacks.

Brotherhood lawyer Abdel Moneim Abdel Maqsoud said that he has filed a police report against both Abou Hamed and Okasha, and also asked for heightened security presence in front of the headquarters.

In response, Abou Hamed alleged that the attack was actually orchestrated by the Brotherhood to delegitimize the march planned in protest against the group on 24 August.
