London 2012: Egypt’s Taekwondo Player Bayoumi Eliminated

Egypt’s taekwondo player Tamer Bayoumi was eliminated on Wednesday after losing 6-4 to Thailand's Pen-Ek Karaket in the men's 58kg repechage contest, which was his only chance to win a bronze medal.

The 31-year-old Bayoumi, bronze medallist in the 2004 Athens Games, could not win any of three rounds against Karaket.

Earlier in the day, he reached the quarterfinal after beating Kazakhstan's Nursultan Mamayev 1-0 in the Preliminary Round. However, he failed to get beyond the last-eight round following an 11-10 defeat by Daehoon Lee of Republic of Korea

The 20-year-old 2011 world champion, Lee won by a sudden death point after he lost to the Egyptian in the first round (1/5) winning the second with the same results before they drew (4/4) in the third.
