Few days ago, HG Bishop Paula came out excitedly telling us that church delegation in the Constituent Assembly has been able to make an achievement. For the first time in the Egyptian history, the Constitution mentions in one of its articles that Christians have the right to apply their religious teachings concerning their personal and religious affairs, as well as choosing their spiritual leaders.
In fact, I agree with Abba Paula, but I have some notes...
What do you think about other articles like that one about insulting God, the prophets, the Caliphs and the Companions of Prophet Mohammed. I remember the talk of Shiek Mohammed Hassan in the Saudi Arabia about God being insulted daily in Egypt by those who believe that Jesus Christ is God (meaning Christians)! What do you think about the article talking about sovereignty to God instead of the people! This only means that religious people will share such sovereignty as they represent God in Egypt!
Another dangerous article which Dr. Wahid Abdel Meguid, Spokesman of the Assembly, has spoken about concerning the right of the Copts to establish a Coptic party which means removing the ban on the establishment of political parties based on religion, which may lead to dividing Egypt based on the religion, and I am sure you don't accept any of this.
Additionally, there are many dangerous articles concerning the powers of the president. I was hoping with many Coptic Christians that our church should stay away from participating in the development of this Constitution, that will be issued by the majority of its members whose ideology is known by everybody. We are playing a good game, in which we are sure to lose! No body remembers the good game as long as our team loses!
THE SITUATION IS VERY SERIOUS AND THEY ARE KEEPING US BUSY THINKING ABOUT ARTICLE II, WHILE A SECTARIAN CONSTITUTION IS BEING PASSED, IN WHICH THERE IS NO RIGHTS FOR NON-MUSLIMS OR EVEN THE MUSLIMS THEMSELVES! ONLY FANATICS WILL HAVE ALL RIGHTS, WHICH I KNOW THAT YOU DON'T ACCEPT WITH ALL LEADERS OF THE CHURCH. I AM SURE YOU HOPE THAT EGYPT WILL STAY A CIVIL AND MODERN STATE AND DOESN'T BECOME A CALIPHATE. I HOPE YOU REMEMBER THAT EVERY THING IS RECORDED IN HISTORY.
