Please, show mercy! This was the last word of sheik Abdullah Badr who was addressing the actors Elham Shahin, and Nur al-Sharif after he accused them of adultery and immorality. Furthermore, it looks like he took the authority from God to make people go to heaven or hell!
In fact, I see nothing strange about his talk, and let me explain! In the old Arabic movies, we find out that as soon as the daughter decides to work as an artist, the father slaps her and expels her from his house. Then, she leaves the house to work as an artist and soon she deviates until she meets with the man who marries her and saves her from her deviation!
In our movies, art is only presented in bars and pubs before a number of drunks; artist whether she is an actress, dancer or singer, she is always a playful woman or even a harlot. If this is what film makers present about their art, extremists should say much more than this.
After the revolution of January 25, the whole world was fascinated by the Egyptians who finally decided to revolt against the corruption of the former regime. Everybody now is talking in politics, religion, military and every thing without even thinking what they are talking about.
Abdullah Badr has only said what's in his mind and in the minds of many Egyptians. I hope he kept his thoughts in his mind as he made fun of the Egyptians and the Arabs.
How many men have lain with you in the name of art? Those were the words of sheik Badr, which are not suitable words for a reverence religious man! Have he seen her or other artists committing adultery? Do you have three witnesses that she did so in order to prove your claim according to the Islamic Law?
Dear sheik, now you are but guilty according to the Islamic Law as you can't prove your claims. I tell you, the paradise is not your property to permit or prevent whoever you like to enter! To be a religious man, you don't need this sad face of yours, or to insult other people for good and no good reasons.
On the other hand, I want to tell the artists: you caused this to yourselves by your poor works. Art is not for sale. Finally, dear artists and sheiks: Please, show mercy!
