While working as an engineer in Switzerland, I met with a French colleague who was raised in Algeria. He knew some Arabic, so we started to go out together every now and then.
Once he told me that he is about to obtain a doctorate. I was surprised as I never saw him studying. He explained to me that he is going to buy one from a famous university! Additionally, he invited me to do the same!
Later, Dr. Borg got his doctorate like a piece of cake. He started bragging and sought a better position in the company based on his fake degree.
Few months later, he was expelled as he couldn’t handle such new position because he didn’t have what it takes. Then, he had to go back to France as he couldn’t find another job in Switzerland.
I think there are many people in power in Egypt just like Dr. Borg who can’t handle their positions as they simply don’t have what it takes. So, they fail and are expected to be expelled from their job sooner or later. Big titles simply can’t hide their failure in managing the country, whether politically, economically and even morally!
Talking about the morals, I can see some similarity between buying a doctorate, and giving people electoral bribes in order to be in the presidential office. The president should fit his position and be able to govern Egypt; otherwise, he may lose his job just like Dr. Berg.
Titles never make up for poor capacity or experience. A President needs to have the charisma of a leader, politician and diplomat. Nevertheless, he should be able to make decisions.
Staying in the presidential palace or having the title of a president is not enough to be a real one. Making the right decisions, and get them respected by the people, not withdraw them few minutes after making them is so crucial.
Egyptians are generally willing to respect and even take pride in their president like Nasser who was considered as a mighty model by the Egyptians. However, they’re able to detect liars and make fun of them. In general, Egyptians are hard to be deceived.
Dr. Borg could deceive the French company for a while, but not for long as he was expelled later. He could have kept his job without this new title that has entirely ruined his life after he has deceived himself.
Members of Constituent Assembly to draft the new constitution have done the same with their new shameful constitution. They have only deceived themselves thinking they’re deceiving the Egyptians with your fake titles.
