A word of honor, I miss this awesome expression very much nowadays, and throughout our daily life in Egypt. It's no longer respected by many people including the government or the presidency.
I remembered a movie by great actors Farid Shawki and Ahmed Mazhar that talks about a prisoner who gave a word of honor to the prison governor that he will return to the prison after visiting his dying wife.
Prison governor accepted and allowed him to escape. After a couple of hours, there was a sudden inspection, and the governor could only think he was going to lose his job forever. When the inspectors arrived to the cell of the prisoner, prison governor expected to find it vacant, but surprisingly enough, he found the prisoner waiting for them as he respected his word of honor.
In the past, traders used to hold their agreements with a word instead of a signing a document. During October war, there was no thefts at all, as even thieves had some words of honor. Now, all this has changed.
However, many people nowadays give words of honor, but they never respect it, including the military council that promised not to hand Egypt down to Muslim Brotherhood. Many times did MB assure they are not after power, but it nominated two people for the presidency and won it. Our President promised to grant freedom of speech and took an oath to respect law and constitution, but broke them.
MB gave a word of honor they will only work for the good of Egypt, and we believed them. May God repose Farid Shawki and his words of honor.
