Mohammed Gohar, journalist and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Cairo Sat, was honored by St. Paul charity in Montreal for protecting Father Metias Nasr as well as 16 Coptic Christians from the attacks of the military police post Maspero massacre in October 2011.
In fact, Gohar deserves even more than this, as he is so modest, decent and lovely. However, I felt sorry that “such action” is being honored, as if it is not likely to see Muslims protecting Christians in Egypt anymore! Moreover, Christians expect journalists only to oppress them.
After the attacks of al-Koshh in 2000, during which 21 Coptic Christians were killed, a national newspaper said that they were killed by the priest of their church who can't shoot well!
In his speech, Gohar said that more than 150 Muslims were protecting the Copts by all means, and our national unity is just fine.
Few days later, Islamic Legitimate Body of Rights and Reformation, in which MB vice-president Khairat al-Shater is a prominent member, said that Muslims are not allowed to congratulate Christians on Christmas, which according to Brookings Institution, is unprecedented sectarian public speech. Muslims have replied by even more congratulations on Facebook as well as inside churches. Many of them have given candies out in churches, and brought congratulation banners, and for the first time, there was a huge Christmas tree in Tahrir Square.
Al-Shater's daughter said on Facebook that Christian feasts always brings bad whether to prove Christians are but infidels, a lot of Muslims have denounced her statement giving examples that bad whether has nothing to do with Christian of Islamic feasts. Later, she had to claim that her Facebook account was stolen, and this wasn't her statement!
While Islamists have been trading on and inciting sectarianism, national unity is rising as well. Therefore, I tell them: Keep on doing what you do in order to get us rid of sectarian tension forever.
