Nour Party says president plans to consider national consensus initiative

President Mohamed Morsy said in a meeting with Nour Party leaders Saturday evening that the national consensus initiative put forward by the party would be added to the agenda of the next national dialogue session, said Nour Galal al-Morra, party secretary general.

Morra said the meeting lasted for about four hours with Pakinam al-Sharqawy, assistant to the president for political affairs, and Ayman Ali, presidential adviser for Egyptians abroad.

The president attended the meeting for more than two hours, listening to the initiative and agreeing to add it to the upcoming national dialogue agenda, making it a key talking point to be discussed.

Nour Party President Younis Makhyoun and Vice President Sayed Mostafa also attended the meeting with Morsy.

The Salafi-oriented party at the end of last month proposed an initiative to ease anger in the streets, calling for the formation of a national salvation government and an end to the state of emergency Morsy imposed in three governorates, as well as amendments to the Constitution.

Nationwide clashes that broke out between security forces and protesters amid the 25 January revolution’s second anniversary, as well as a controversial court ruling in Port Said, prompted several political groups, such as the Nour Party, to call for action.
