President Mohamed Morsy's office invited "various national forces" to a dialogue session scheduled for Tuesday to discuss the parliamentary elections scheduled for 22 April.
Meeting participants would issue recommendations to the High Elections Committee, and also offer suggestions on ensuring appropriate elections monitoring by local and international civil society organizations, the president's office said in a statement.
The session would begin at 5 pm and would be broadcast live, the statement said.
The agenda for the meeting includes, “Discussing all the proposals of the political forces involved … as well as fostering a climate of confidence associated with the electoral process.”
The opposition National Salvation Front said that the front leaders to Tuesday’s session as individual leaders of their respective political parties, and not as a united front. The front has not yet decided on whether or not to accept the invitation, members said.
Ahmed al-Borai, spokesperson for the front, told privately-owned CBC satellite channel on Monday evening that the climate is not suitable for the parliamentary elections that are slated for 22 April.
He also said he was amazed that Morsy, in his interview with Amr al-Leithy on Sunday, said it makes no sense to hold a Cabinet reshuffle if the government is only staying in place for 120 days.
