All we hear nowadays is about participating or boycotting the controversial parliamentary elections. The Muslim Brotherhood’s vendetta to capture the entire country is now clear. It is also clear that they do not care about what’s in the country’s best interests.
The salvation Front lately announced boycotting the election, but I still believe that the Salvation Front should review its decision. Participating in the upcoming election is not a luxury; it’s a crucial step in the Egyptian community.
I believe that boycotting the election holds a prominent stance, but I also consider the implications of participation as well.
In fact, some people say that boycotting the election of 2010 led to the collapse of Mubarak’s regime. That might be true, but the political game has been changed now. Before we hadn’t any real elected president, but now we do. Even if some people say that the election had been fabricated, the fact is, all nations approved the election results and now considers Morsi as the rightful elected president.
We shouldn’t be stubborn in trying to collapse the regime, because this regime needs time to come to its end. Furthermore, until this time comes, we should deal with the political game as it is.
I understand that many people might disagree with the previously mentioned argument and desire to completely boycott the election. However, I’m sorry to say that it will be a waste of time. The opposition should first prove that it has political stamina, so when it announces that it is going to boycott the election; the party in power can recognize how much its legitimacy will be affected.
One of the theories I don’t like is the struggling on the street forever theory. We should struggle in political life as professionals, not as beginners. We should prove that after much effort in the political landscape, we can then decide to boycott or participate.
Boycotting shouldn’t be propaganda; it has to be a real influence because we have to count the pros and cons of both choices. I believe that boycotting the election is not the right decision in this stage of our political struggle.
It is acceptable to be ignorant in any other situation except this one, for this moment requires us to be wise. I believe that participating is the right choice at this moment and if not, why is the European Union trying to convince different political powers to participate in the upcoming election?
