I'm afraid that our political battle will soon be developed into a civil war, in which weapons will lead the dialogue between the Egyptian parties. How can we forgive ourselves then? I believe that we're in bad need for listening and understanding from both the government as well as the opposition, after we've lost all hope to be united.
We need a heroic leader who have super powers to gather the adversaries, reconcile the combatants, and teach them that Egypt should be put above all.
In fact, such leader can only be found in our imagination and romantic movies of the Golden Era. Now, everything is really complicated and ablaze.
Many people were shocked for the official reaction of the presidency after the violence near the main headquarters of the Muslim Brotherhood in Mokattam last Friday. The incidents and the reaction of the presidency proved it is more concerned with the safety of the headquarters of the MB than the national security of Egypt. From one hand, the presidency has reacted so fast to the incidents in Mokattam. From the other hand it has totally ignored many other great incidents. For instance, thousands of people had besieged the Supreme Constitutional Court and prevented the judges from dissolving the Constituent Committee and the Shura Council, and Media practitioners were attacked and prevented from working. Yet no action was taken by the presidency, save a little incitement for more violence!
The presidency has also taken no action during many incidents. For instance: Port Said and the Presidential Palace incidents. It's only empowered the police to show really violent reactions.
Talking about the reconciler, it can be a serious of decisions or Presidential Proclamations that may save Egypt, and prevent more escalation.
Can the president take the initiative to save Egypt and prevent the approaching civil war? Can he put Egypt above his group? Can he form a presidential council to supervise drafting a new consensual constitution and prepare for new free parliamentary and presidential elections? I think this is the only way to achieve the sought reconciliation.
