I often receive this question from many Coptic Christians: Why do you defend the Copts? I always say: Because they are real Egyptians that are rooted in the Egyptian history. Furthermore, the Copts are wronged and prosecuted in Egypt, and they are suffering even more after the Islamic current political ascendency to power. However, I sympathize with the Copts as I simply refuse to hate the other people, only because they are different. Those who prosecute the Christians were likely to be prosecuted if they were born Christians. I mean that it’s all about human being and not certain religion.
The Islamists don’t use their conscience or even normal human feelings to deal with the Copts. Though they keep talking about rights of the Copts granted by Islam, such rights should be granted by the law, but it’s not like this in Egypt. The Islamists can only hate and incite hatred, and I believe they would try to create enemies if they don’t have enough of them already!
God knows that I haven’t gained any profit for such attitude, but rather many problems and fake accusations claiming: I’ve converted into Christianity, and I’ve been insulting Islam. However, I think that those people who accuse me need both psychotherapy and more understanding to their religion, in order to understand that defending the minorities is but a “holy mission”.
Not surprisingly, those I’m defending were one of the people who harmed me as many of them couldn’t believe I’m offering my help for free. I suffered a lot from both the Islamists and the Coptic Christians, but upon reading Islamic and Christian spiritual books, I knew that man is all about his conscience that leads him to be a human being and feeling responsible for others in pain.
Finally, thanks for the tribulations that enlighten us though they bring a lot of pain and sorrows as well. Justice is to be achieved, but a costly price should be paid.
