Mubarak would still be arrested for other cases - paper

Ousted President Hosni Mubarak will not leave the prison cell even if a court decision releasing him is issued, an official source at the Egyptian prosecution told a local newspaper.

General-proseuctor Talaat Ibrahim will decide whether or not to release the former president, the source added in an interview with Masry Youm newspaper.

Mubarak is currently imprisoned and being tried for the case of killing protesters during the January uprising.

Mubarak had already spent time in prison exceeding the legal limit for custody detention. He would have been released on merits of there not being a legal reason for him to be detained in the killing protesters case.

The source added that Mubarak's imprisonment will continue for at least 15 more days pending investigations on charges of graft, corruption and seizing public money.

"If a decision to release him is issued, Mubarak would still be arrested on account of different cases."

Mubarak has arrived at court earlier today to hear if he will be released from prison pending retrial in the cases of killing protesters and financial corruption.

The toppled president had received a life sentence for failing to protect peaceful protesters during the uprising. He was granted a retrial in January.
