Egyptian police arrest 39 in Cairo High Court clashes

Egypt's police has arrested thirty-nine people, including a US citizen, following violence at the High Court protest in downtown Cairo.

Thousands of Islamist protesters, mainly Muslim Brotherhood members, held a rally at the High Court on Friday to demand judiciary reforms when confrontations erupted between them and unknown opponents, leaving at least 87 injured.

According to state news agency MENA, three of those arrested are accused of torching one of the Muslim Brotherhood's buses that was parked in the nearby Abdel-Moneim Riyadh Square.

On its official website, the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) accused members of the 'Black Bloc,' an anarchist-inspired group, of instigating the violence.

According to Al-Ahram Arabic news website, police found firearms, Molotov cocktails and light weapons with those arrested.
