Muslims of al-Wasty have been hostile to the Copts since Rana H. Kamal, a Muslim girl, has disappeared two months ago. Indeed I sympathize with her family as well as any family that loses a child, however, in this case, there were tons of rumors, claims and accusations that were taken for granted by many people as facts including church implication in her disappearance.
These accusations were made by some Salafists aiming to convince the simple people that the Church has “Christianization gangs” that works on converting Muslim girls into Christianity after casting spells on them, which apparently incites them to attack the churches by many uneducated people and savages.
Salafis, depending on some notes about Christianity taken by the girl and could be easily found on the internet, accused the Church of being behind her disappearance, which is totally denied by the church and there is no proof that this is true.
Moreover, I met with the priest whom they accuse of teaching the girl about Christianity. He told me that he has never met with her before. Her family claimed that she was bewitched because she sometimes felt pain and thirsty! And I wonder: Who sometimes don’t? They use all this nonsense to incite against the Coptic Christians and the Church accusing them of practicing witchcraft.
As usual, none of those who incite sectarian strife in al-Wasty is on trial right now, and indeed none won’t, in spite of incite hatred against Christians.
I hope that the girl speaks out and explain exactly what happened for the sake of her family as well as the innocent persecuted Copts, and I hope her family understands that someone is manipulating them for some reason. They rather need to cooperate with the police, the Church and Al-Azhar in order to find the girl instead of attacking innocent people.
Police having to give great concern to the disappeared Muslim girl, they should also care for hundreds of disappeared Christian minor girls for the sake of their families. In fact, Rana and Abram could have been detained by some people who want to ruin the relationship between Muslims and Christians right before the parliamentary elections or to cover up for the failures of president Mohammed Morsy. Those who hired Hamas’ militias to kill the revolutionists in Tahrir Square, break into the prisons and police stations can do anything to achieve their goals.
