It was pretty much a dramatic scene, when about 10 friends gathered at Cairo Airport to bid farewell for their old friend who has decided to emigrate out of Egypt. My friends and I had tried to change the mind of this successful businessman, but he rather insisted on emigration decision.
We couldn't speak much while we were waiting for his departure. I could only think about our unforgettable memories that we shared for years. I wondered: Why should many good and successful people leave Egypt?
Few days before, I devoted my time for my friend and visited the Pyramids, the Egyptian Museum, and other places that keep parts of our significant memories.
We used to talk about almost everything, but politics. He wanted to leave Egypt for the sake of his sons that their dark future is waiting for them, just for being Christians. Again, I couldn't change his mind, and he didn't believe we can change this dark future for Egypt and his children.
“This is the most difficult decision I have ever made”, said he. “But I have to protect my sons whom their own country despises, only for being Christians. They're going to have the American passport, which will protect them even if they decide to return in the future” he added.
It's worth mentioning that his wife and children, having the same reasons, have supported his decision, which all of them are well qualified and ready for; they speak English, have money as well as great experience in their careers.
The sad farewell was wet with many tears and memories. I couldn't stop crying while driving back alone, so I stopped my car till the tears would stop. O God, please help me.
