Youth protesters complain they were mistreated at Cairo prison

Three activists arrested during a March protest in Egypt said they were mistreated during their detention at Cairo's Al-Aqrab Prison.

One of the recently released members of Egypt's 6 April Youth Movement told a news conference that their treatment was not justified, Ahram Online reported.

"They (police) deal with us in a very violent way," said Zizo Abdou. "We were physically and psychologically tortured even though our protest was peaceful."

Abdou was arrested along with Mohamed Mostafa and Mamdouh Abu-Adam when Egyptian security forces dispersed a March 29 protest held by the youth group outside the residence of the country's interior minister.

They were charged with rioting and resisting authorities.

A judge ordered their release April 29 but it remains unclear whether the charges against them were dropped.

Protesters at the March rally wore women's undergarments, accusing the Interior Ministry of "prostituting" itself to President Mohamed Morsi's administration.
