Teenager’s parents apologise after he vandalises ancient Egyptian artwork

A Chinese teenager’s parents have apologised after it was revealed he had vandalised ancient Egyptian drawings.

The culprit was discovered after he posted a picture of his deed online.

The ‘graffiti’ was scrawled across ancient artwork at a 3,500-year-old temple complex in Luxor, Egypt.

The teenager’s mother said she was sorry for what he had done.

‘We want to apologise to the Egyptian people and to people who have paid attention to this case across China,’ she told newspaper Modern Express on Saturday.

The photo showed the boy had scrawled ‘Ding Jinhao was here’ in Chinese on an artwork.

He was identified after annoyed internet users tracked him down. They then posted some of his personal details online.

His mother stressed that although he had done something wrong he had now learned from the incident, which happened when he was younger.

Mr Ding’s father urged the public to now leave his son alone.

‘This is too much pressure for him to take,’ he added.
