Experts: Embassies and churches are main target of terrorist groups

Embassies and churches have become main targets for terrorist groups and yet the state ignores a large number of these facilities, many experts claimed.Embassies and churches have become main targets for terrorist groups and yet the state ignores a large number of these facilities, many experts claimed.

Since the ousting of former President Mohamed Morsi from power on July 3, 2013, many experts said terrorist organizations would target security institutions, embassies, and churches. They warned that leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood Mahmoud Ezzat ordered bombings in Egypt targeting foreign embassies related to countries that support Egypt’s roadmap.

The area surrounding Saudi Embassy turned into a security barrack and security forces blocked roads leading to the embassy using steel barriers to prevent the any cars and even ambulances from passing. Armored vehicles were deployed in the surrounding streets and security and military forces intensified their presence in the area to strictly deal with any situation.

Despite the UAE and Kuwaiti’s support of the roadmap, their embassies in Cairo did not witness any exceptional security measures.

“There are plans targeting the embassies of countries that support the roadmap,” security expert Hussien Hamooda said. The Muslim Brotherhood’s international organization has expressed their intentions to target diplomatic institutions in Egypt.

Strategic and political expert Hossam Sweilam said the Brotherhood allocated billions of dollars to inflict chaos and tension in Egypt and target political and security figures. He warned that embassies would be a main target for terrorist groups in the upcoming period. He called on security authorities to intensify measures to protect those embassies.

Head of Nasser Military Academy Zakaria Hussien said the Brotherhood will implement the third phase of their plan to raise chaos and destabilize the state. He said they will not target only embassies but will also aim at churches and that they turned to incite against Coptic Christians, blaming them for the June 30 Demonstrations.
