I usually dedicate my weekly articles to discuss or express my views in pure Egyptian problems, today I write a view on a world crisis that might affect Egypt in the near or far future, but at the moment might look as a non Egyptian crisis but involves powers that will effect Egypt; but first let me have a brief review on October 1962 worldwide events!
The October Crisis
Or equally The Missile Scare, in the former USSR — was a 13-day confrontation in October 1962 between the Soviet Union and Cuba on one side and the United States on the other side. The crisis is generally regarded as the moment in which the Cold War came closest to turning into a nuclear conflict and is also the first documented instance of Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) being discussed as a determining factor in a major international arms agreement!
As I said briefly reviewing events we see US escalated USSR fears mounting nuclear missiles directed to Moscow in Italy and Turkey which pushed Moscow in retaliation to mount similar aggressive weapons in Cuba directed to US! Ex-United Nations Secretary-General U Thant reached an agreement to dismount the missiles in both sides that is Cuba & Italy/Turkey!
This cold war lasted till the Soviet Union collapsed and USSR become part of the history but never ended the cold war between Russia and the States! In this cold war Egypt suffered huge betrayal upon the 1967 Egypto-Israeli war backed up by USSR weapons against USA support to Israeli army which proved its superiority and seized unused high level weapons and heavy armoury abandoned by the trapped Egyptian solders in the absence of a true leadership –but this is another story not today’s issue-!
This cold undeclared war is going on for absolute power over the world and will last till only God knows when, but its side effects hit here and there and no one is safe from it!
Having said this brief review now I head back to today’s news where I see Troubles and army troopers more than normal people in the news Army in Ukraine, in Turkey, in central Africa the remainder of French colonies in it next to Congo and as a conclusion Egypt, Tunis, Libya, Syria, Yemen and almost all middle east countries I have to wonder is it the WWIII on undeclared?
Is Vladimir Putin returning the favour to JF KENNEDY in the Cuba Missile crisis and acting like he did is it a well calculated move? Is he ready to the full extend of the consequences? Future will answer those questions but where is Egypt, and the Middle East in all of that?
I rest my case in this issue as I do not like to predict neither I’m a Claire Vuayant like the French people call people who predict the future!
