Mahlab’s cabinet officially quits

Egypt’s interim cabinet headed by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab resigned Monday after Abdel Fatah al-Sisi took the presidential oath Sunday evening.

“It is an honor for me and the Cabinet to submit your majesty our resignation to leave the path for a new appropriate choice to serve the nation and complete the benefits in the upcoming period,” the resignation read.

The former 36-minister cabinet held a meeting to discuss the resignation Monday morning. Former Minister of Communication and Information Technology Atef Ahmed Helmy Naguib was absent due to a work task abroad, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported.

Mahlab’s Cabinet was the second interim government formed on March 1after his predecessor Hazem al-Bebelawy’s government, which was appointed after the ousting of the deposed Islamist President Mohamed Morsi on July 3, 2013.
