Badie trial adjourned to June 23

Cairo Criminal Court adjourned the trial of 50 Muslim Brotherhood members, leaders and former Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie to June 23; the defendants are accused of forming an operations room during the Rabaa al-Adaweya sit-in last year and inciting violence. The trial was adjourned in order to implement requests by the defense. Among the defendants are Gehad el-Haddad, the former spokesperson for the Muslim Brotherhood, Khairat el-Shater, Salah Sutan, and Hassan Malek. One of the defendants is Mohamed Salah Sultan, son of Salah Sultan, who was transferred to the hospital without the court’s permission, reported Youm7. Mohamed Salah Sultan is currently on a hunger strike in protest of his arrest. Abdullah el-Shamy, an Al Jazeera journalist arrested during the Rabaa dispersal who was also on a hunger strike, was released yesterday on health grounds; during his detainment he released a number of photos showing a dramatic weight loss, and his family was vocal about his deteriorating health.
