Hamas ready for talks with Egypt, unlike Cairo: Mushir al-Masri

The latest death sentences against Hamas members show that Egypt is not ready to restore ties with Hamas or the Palestinian people, senior member of Hamas Mushir al-Masri told Arab 48 website Tuesday. The latest death sentences against Hamas members show that Egypt is not ready to restore ties with Hamas or the Palestinian people, senior member of Hamas Mushir al-Masri told Arab 48 website Tuesday.

“We offer our hand to open a dialogue with the Egyptian authorities, and we believe the tension come from the Egyptian side,” he said.

On Saturday, Former President Mohamed Morsi and 105 defendants were sentenced to death over escaping from jail in 2011, as members of Hamas and Hezbollah were tried in absentia.

On Jan. 29, 2011, assailants raided Wadi al-Natroun prison, freeing a large number of prisoners, including members of Egyptian, Palestinian and Lebanese Islamist groups. Morsi, who was jailed on remand, was among those who fled the prison.

However, Hamas claims that two of its members who were sentenced to death were already killed in 2008 and 2014.

“We denounce the sentence issued by an Egyptian court [Sunday] against three of our heroes, especially that they are all dead; Raed al-Attar was killed in the Israeli raid on Gaza in the summer of 2014, while Hossam al-Senaa’ was killed in 2008” the Gaza based group said in a statement Saturday.
