Cairo's stability is key for Arabs, world: Egyptian PM on visit to Italy

Egyptian Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, currently on a visit to Italy, said that his country's stability is indispensible for wider stability in the region and the world.

Mahlab is on a three-day visit that will see him signing a memorandum of understanding (MOUs) on prospective energy deals and reaffirming strong ties with Italy, saying it's one of the biggest investors in Egypt.

The premiere's comments came during a global food exhibition in Milan, Italy that spans six months from May until October under the title, "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life."

"Egypt's stability is key to the Middle East, Europe, and the whole World," Mahlab was quoted as saying by state news agency MENA.

Mahlab called on all countries to come together in the face of "extremism" and "terrorism."

Earlier in July, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said his country and Egypt will stand together "in the fight against terrorism and fanaticism" after a deadly bombing targeted the Italian consulate in central Cairo.

The bombing of the consulate killed an Egyptian civilian and injured several others. The attack was the first on a foreign mission in Egypt since Islamist insurgents began a campaign against the country's security forces two years ago.
