Shooting in Upper Egypt’s Beni Suef kills policeman

A national security policeman was shot dead Thursday by unidentified assailants in his car in Upper Egypt’s governorate of Beni Suef, reported Youm7.A national security policeman was shot dead Thursday by unidentified assailants in his car in Upper Egypt’s governorate of Beni Suef, reported Youm7.

The attackers reportedly opened fire on Abdullah Ismail, a 48-yr policeman who was driving his car on Cairo-Aswan Agricultural road along with his friend Mohamed Ibrahim, who was not harmed.
 
Ismail was announced dead immediately from a shot to his chest; his body was taken to a hospital in his home town of Beni Suef.
 
A police hunt has been launched after the perpetrators who fled the scene.
 
Beni Suef has seen a similar incident on Jan. 5 when unidentified gunmen on motorbike shot dead a low-ranking police officer, who was reportedly on his way home from work, and injured a passerby in his shoulder.
 
Over the past years, in which Egypt has been fighting a rising militancy, especially in North Sinai, hundreds of police personnel along with army soldiers have been killed in a series of attacks have escalated since the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi.
 
A total of 138 policemen were killed in “terrorist attacks” in 2015, according to the Interior Ministry.
