A man, allegedly belong to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group was killed in a fire exchange with security forces in Cairo’s northern district of al Salam, the interior ministry announced in a statement Thursday.
The shootout occurred after security forces raided the apartment where the MB member was hiding, said the statement, adding that weapons and explosive devices were seized at the apartment.
Four police officers were injured in the shootout, the statement added.
Egypt has witnessed a significant rise in militancy since the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 following mass protests against his rule. According to the Interior Ministry, militant attacks have killed more than 500 security personnel since then.
