Safest Country by What Standards?

The U.S. has come out with a report listing the safest Middle Eastern countries to visit for tourists. Among this list were Jordan, UAE, and our very own Egypt. What I want to focus on is this fog that is floating around Egypt clouding everyone from the downturn the country is actually encountering.

Just last week, policemen brutally murdered a man in cold blood for literally no reason. Also recently, was the Egyptian wrestling hopeful dying at the hands of her father. There is a disgusting way of thinking that is happening in Egypt, that everyone seems to be oblivious to. The minds of too many troubled Egyptians are distorted. There is this thinking that people can “own” other people. Parents believe they “own” their children, and can beat, hit, torture, rape, kill, as they want because children are seen as “possessions” not living beings with their own free will.

Yes, we are not like Iraq. We don’t have ISIS brainwashing people and destroying churches and families for no good reason, other than the fact that they are absolutely insane. We do, however, have the mentality, unfortunately, that is much more dangerous. Police go around all “high and mighty” armed with sickening judgement and armed with a gun, or baton, or tazer, or any other harmful weapon, and they believe it is from their right to kill innocent people, or torture victims for no other reason than, they felt like it.

How is this safety? How is this attitude of treating people like animals considered acceptable? When did it become the norm to beat your wives? I know, in your head, you are saying that is not ok. But consider this, when you think of the population, how much can you honestly say don’t have this way of thinking? How many of you have witnessed men bothering women on the metro, or in the streets? How many taxi drivers have abducted women because they felt entitled to do so? Furthermore, how many children have been beaten by their own TEACHERS in school, because the teachers are disciplining the children? This is disgusting and not ok. People deserve love and respect, and to be treated equally.

What’s funny is the East thinks of people in the West as so dirty for having dogs and cats as pets in their houses. In reality, if Eastern people treated their own children as Western people treat their pets, maybe then I could agree with the statement that Egypt is “safe”

I am absolutely appalled.
