Regional aviation security conference adopts roadmap as it concludes in Sharm El-Sheikh

A regional aviation security conference which is due to conclude in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh on Thursday has come up with a roadmap to foster aviation security in Africa and the Middle East.

The ministerial conference adopted a list of measures to be taken by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), governments and aviation authorities in participating countries to ensure global aviation security and apply international standards of air transport security, according to the document obtained by Al-Ahram Arabic news website.
 
The measures, which are yet to be endorsed by civil aviation ministers and authorities in countries in the two regions, mainly focused on a number of aspects including: raising awareness about security threats, improving security knowledge, developing human resources in the field of air security, and employing information and communication technology.
 
The planned moves include disseminating information about aviation security threats, evaluating threats to electronic security, assessing risks of remote-controlled planes and man pads, and providing sufficient resources for effective government oversight.
 
The roadmap aims to draw up an effective risk assessment methodology, alleviate risks of internal threats, reduce threats to electronic security and at areas open to the public and ensure effective implementation of international standards pertaining to the security of air transport, the document says.
 
The three-day conference kicked off on Tuesday under the theme of Global Aviation Security Plan: The Roadmap to Foster Aviation Security in Africa and the Middle East. A ministerial session was due on to conclude the event on Thursday.
