Egypt Nour applies for New Party

CAIRO - Presidential hopeful Ayman Nour submitted documents to the Parties Affairs Committee seeking approval for a new party.

Nour said that he is very proud that the ‘El-Ghad el-Jadid’ (New Tomorrow) party will be born after the January 25 revolution, describing it as representing a new generation of his former party ‘El-Ghad’ (Tomorrow). He stressed that once he obtains approval for the new party, he intends to merge both parties into one, noting that the purpose of the creation of ‘El-Ghad el-Jadid’ is to avert any possible legal problems in the future. Late in March, Egypt’s ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, in power since the ousting of Hosni Mubarak in February, ratified a law that allows the formation of new political parties upon notice.
